Hey - it's my first Threadless submit ever! Pretty exciting. Thought the outdated listening device combined with extinct creature groovin' to the beat of another millennium could be kind of fun, without ruffling anyone's feathers (or bones) too much! I'm looking forward to being a part of the Threadless community, and continuing to submit designs. I love what I see on the site and on peeps out and about in the world so it would certainly be an honor to get printed - or even a whole bunch of votes and some useful feedback.

OK so is it just me, is it a busy halloween weekend, does my design suck? I mean thanks for your comment, but NO one else out there? Hello! I thought this was pretty cool, but the cool reception I'm receiving makes me wonder. Signed overly sensitive paranoid impatient insecure.

So I'm wondering if people are getting the whole "commentary" on the ad campaign that ran about a year ago for that portable listening device that is so popular?!?! I am actually considering the thing in dino's claw being an actual rock. Thoughts? PS this is my design but I am logged in here at a dif computer (at work) as dif user.

Yeah, I know what add campaign you are talking about and this looks exactly like it. I knew that's what you were going for before I read your last comment too, so anyone who has seen those commercials should know. I don't know about you're whole rock idea but I think this one looks pretty good as it is. Maybe a green shirt would look cooler, but it's not that important. Have you tried subbing this one yet? I think you should. It looks good the way it is.

Great idea and nice drawing. It's hard to comment exactly because the details are hard to see. A bigger image would be nice. And if you do go on to submit I reccommend you present the design differently; maybe using a picture of a real t shirt.

Very cool. I might try a different color shirt (maybe only because I don't look good in orange). Can you add a shirt on the dino that reads "FRANKIE SAYS RELAX"? Or put him on roller skates with knee high socks, a sweat band and a transistor radio by his ear?
Maybe I've said too much. I like it. |

SAMMY SEZ THANX! I agree - the orange was a choice in part to plug the bright primaries as used in original i campaign. But another blogger's suggestion of dark grey is resonating with me - might make the black pop in a subtle way.

Leo Canham on Nov 04 '09 Thanks for the comment on mine. You could try having the fingers going around the walkman a bit more, at the moment it looks like its floating a little. Also maybe try making the walkman a little smaller so if more in proportion with the size of the headphones.Good luck

Hey - I really like this! I fully agree with Leo that the hand should go a little more around the cassette, but I like it the size it is because i think it hints that cassettes are as prehistoric as dinos. Good work. I love orange, but I think orange submissions have a rough go, so maybe give a couple of options on your submission.

I think the whole Parody idea might work abit better if there were a few dinosaurs in a row striking different poses with the walkman to give the impression of dancing... I'd buy that... I love dinosaurs! Also I think it would work much better on brighter colours like a bright pink or green to give a more retro feel...

I know it takes away from the whole ipod campaign vibe but hear me out. You're trying to combine two jokes. What if instead of the ipod ad you went with dinosaur bones. Like when they get discovered in rock. With headphones on the skull and the walkman nearby? I think that would make the "extinct" joke more important than trying to co-opt such an iconic campaign visual...again just an idea:) overall i'm a fan of the idea

I think its a great idea, but I think the dino should be much larger... A single design placed right in the middle of the shirt is almost overpowered by the orange around it, give the dino some leverage over the orange.

There needs to be a background. Other dino's watching, or at least a foresty area. Just my opinion though.

I like this too. Interesting concept although the ipod ads are a bit over-saturated these days....too identifiable. But I do like the dino, he's cute. Im new as well but it looks like you are doing well!!!

I think this is fantastic, but I'd try to emphasize that it's a cassette player instead of an iPod. Maybe make it larger?
As for not getting comments right away - comment on other people's critiques! I'm new too, and it drove me nuts at first until I figured out that participating makes other people participate! Speaking of... critique me back? :) The Death of Analog |

Thanks to everyone for all the great feedback! I am definitely changing color background, and as far as the whole i-pod parody maybe it is a but passe, over saturated etc. The bones theory could be cool (lots more work - ugh). The multi dinos idea is interesting but I think I'm stuck on the impact of the singular icon. Great fodder to chew on. Threadless community rocks!

maybe make the walkman look more like it's in his hand. have a dino-finger come in front of it so it looks like he's clutching it properly, at the mo it's a bit stuck on.

It takes a second to realize it's not an iPod in his hand. Maybe if the entire design was enlarged the detail of the walkman would come out more. I agree the shirt color could be different. Green would work - I'd say bright would be better than dark. What about gold?
