That's really awesome, very disorienting but I love that. One of the squares on the left side of the shirt needs to be filled, but other than that, I just want to see the next step!
I think I'm going to hand draw the rabbit, and vectorize the floor. but we'll see.
Great skewed perspective, and I definitely get the surreal feel of Alice in Wonderland! I can’t wait to see it colored:)
Also watch out for your rabbits right hand, it might become funny looking with the foreshortening
thanks... good help!

nikolina100 on Jul 25 '07
I agree w/ empiricist, can't wait to see the colors. Looks really great so far.
redoom on Jul 25 '07
The upside down perspective is what sells this for me, but i don't like how the rabbits head is cut off.
Colors please! lookin' good so far |
with colors!

Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
The figure in relation to the perspective of the floor is odd. It looks like the figure is lying down.
Maltzmania on Jul 25 '07
this is fucking cool though...but yah change the perspective...i'm lovin this
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Also, the 9 should be IX, not IV.
Maltzmania on Jul 25 '07
maybe its meant to be all fucked up?
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
It doesn't look like it was intended.
Maltzmania on Jul 25 '07
wishful thinking haha
Maltzmania on Jul 25 '07
you think the whiskers will work? I feel like the head may not match up...i dunno
redoom on Jul 25 '07
yeah in truth you should probably see his back, either that or the feet should be tapered down and the figure squashed and grounded. iI really like the color offset on the door
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
If I'm not mistaken, there are more than 5 colors there.
sillybanana on Jul 25 '07
This makes me dizzy but i like!
redoom on Jul 25 '07
you would be able to see the top of his head in this perspective.
btw... check out my new sub guys. thanks |
there are 6 colors... you're right...thanks for that catch... and redoom, the wearer is supposed to be the white rabbit... so the view is right. it makes more sense if you can actually look down at the drawing.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
I understand that the wearer is supposed to be the White Rabbit, but if you were to really look down at your feet, you wouldn't be able to see across the room, so the perspective is off. It looks like the figure is lying on the floor looking past his feet at the door.
oh... @ cactus...right, well he is running, but I'll flatten out the floor a bit.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Yeah, I know he's running, but still...
i like the concept! i think the drawing could be sharpened up a little. nice work though rolf!
textured tiles and such
when i say it could be sharpened up i guess i mainly would like to see some more line variation to create a little more interesting drawing.
oh! you added as i was typing! i like the changes but i still think some line variation could help.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Haha...I know you tried to fix the perspective, but now it's less correct than before.
No offense, really...I'm just trying to help. |
Atrix on Jul 25 '07
I like the added color, but the fur effect close to the neck of the shirt seems a little bit out of place. Plain white might be better? Just a suggestion.
your help is 100% welcome, don't worry that's what crits are for. I am a big fan of skewed perspective though, so, I need input like that to make me aware of what is up...
in order to fix the perspective, I need to make the door further away and the tiles streched vertcally, correct? |
ladykat on Jul 25 '07
I prefer version 3 - more bold, and I don't know if it's possible to get the perspective right and still have a good image for the shirt... sometimes fudging is okay.
Atrix on Jul 25 '07
I like the perspective as it is, nothing in Alice In Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass is realistic. This perspective makes me, looking at the shirt, feel like the white rabbit is walking straight, and the floor is falling away beneath him. It works nicely.
redoom on Jul 25 '07
If the wearer is the rabbit then I suggest that you take the nose and cheeks off, taper the vest, lose the legs and just have the rabbit feet showing under the vest.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Not necessarily...this is kind of a tough problem to explain.
I think you'd have to make adjustments to both the figure as well as the floor to make them both work together. See, the foot that is touching the floor would follow the same perspective going into the distance as one of the tiles. If you look at the foot in your drawing, it looks like the heel is at a right angle to the floor, which is why I said that it looked like the figure was lying down. Ugh...it's really hard for me to explain what I'm trying to say without drawing it out for you. |
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Oh, my "not necessarily" was a direct response to Rolf's post.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
sole* not heel
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
I like the perspective as it is, nothing in Alice In Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass is realistic.
Yeah, I realize that the perspective in a Wonderland-type world wouldn't have to be realistic, but there's a difference between making something intentionally unrealistic and not getting it right. |
alrighty... thanks a bunch again!... maybe the best approach is to just redraw it.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
Perhaps it would be a good idea to get some more opinions from others who have also studied about perspective before starting over completely...
I didn't mean to make you start over. |
I figure this is one of my better ideas, so I might as well do it right., right? I just wanna do it right if I'm gonna do it at all.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jul 25 '07
That's true...Hopefully you can find someone who can explain the whole perspective thing better than I did, although I tried.
rolf Im trying to come up with a way to put what cactus is trying to say and like him Its just tough try just taking a picture of your legs while walking youll get the idea of wht you can see and what you cant. the only way you could ever see whats coming ahead of you would be if you were walking on a sphere and again thats something that yo umight want to get reference for .. not so much the walking but how perspective works on a sphere. this is a cool Idea and I want you to get it right
THANKS!... I think I'm gonna take a little different approach, of the rabbit before he jumps down the hole. on a green shirt and all. I think the perspective fits better, and it'll be a stronger concept, even. I'm very happy with all of the help you all have been able to provide for me. THANKS THANKS!!!
i think the best way to do it is if you make it look like its being looked through a fish eyed lens
that way you could see the bunny and the door in one shot |
thanks Joe, that's how my original picture was (not the sketch posted in this critique.) but unfortuantely, it's rough for a shirt. anyways... I'll try and get my newest version up tomorrow.

I liked version 2 the best...

SourBitch on Jul 26 '07
Ditto, Mare Bear. Maybe the newer rabbit perspective with the floor from the start.

personally i liked the sketch the most, i really think it went down hill from there
too bad I can't sub a sketch...eh?...I need a reboot, then maybe I'll rework some of this.

well if you defined the lines more you could submit the sketch and add color, i think it would look so much better
SourBitch on Jul 27 '07
I agree with T tees.

duckified on Jul 27 '07
i liked the floor better, all that was really wrong with it was the way the rabbits foot was coming off, making it seem like he was detached from the floor.
