We are super excited to announce that we’re collaborating with Society6 to launch a curated line of products called the Threadless Artist Shoppe on June 1st! Society6 is an amazing place for artists to take part in unique opportunities and sell their work on a variety of products (we're starting off with t-shirts and art prints). We’re really happy to be working with Society6 and this is just the first step towards providing more opportunities for more artists to get their work out to a whole new set of eyes.

Here's all you have to do to be one of the first to participate:

1) Sign up as an artist on Society6
2) Set up your Studio and post your work up for sale
3) Click this link and apply to be considered as part of the Threadless Artist Shoppe
4) …wait for it...
5) Make big bucks - you'll earn royalties on all your sales!

Even if your work is not selected at first for the Threadless Artist Shoppe, your t-shirts and prints are still immediately available for purchase through your Society6 Studio, and automatically eligible to be sold through the online stores of Society6's other retail partners, like Urban Outfitters. Whoa.

You have one week to submit to be part of the launch so no dilly-dallying!

I was looking through those Society6 shirts and was thinking "Why are they all beige?"

Then I saw you could change shirt colors and was like "Oh. That's cool."

I have a Society6 studio and tried the invite link through the TL newsletter, but when it got to the Paypal verification page it all went sour with a few error messages. Don't know if TL received my application for an invite or not.

Some TL artists on Society6 I've seen are wotto, jillustration and B7. Maybe we could ask them...

When you first set up your Print you will be able to set your own retail price and profit for all sales through your Society6 Studio and the Society6 Shop. For all fixed price items, such as t-shirts and iphone skins, you receive 10% of retail. When your Prints are sold through our retail partners like the Threadless Artist Shoppe you will receive 10% of retail on these as well.

gumbolimbo
   gumbolimbo on May 25 '10 at 12:00pm
So, basically, society6 prints and ships the item? Like a print on demand thing?

   randyotter3000 on May 25 '10 at 12:03pm
its seems like if ur not accepted by threadless you have used up a design by letting society6 print it, and I kinda dont see the benifit of whats going on, society6 usually gets bad sales from what i have heard.

Yeah they POD on the shirts/posters. I wish they had darker shirt colors though.

generally companies dont want a design that ha been printed elsewhere by any means, so submitting her for little return seems like a bit of a waste

I am tempted... but whilst I appreciate S6 provide the platform, produce and distribute - a 'royalty' of 10% on your own work is not something that massively appeals, I must admit.

I've heard enough good things to make me think it must be worthwhile so I think I'll probably give it a go.

Yeah, its not massively appealing money wise, but I will give it a shot because, hey, I can always make more art.

I deleted my society6 account a while ago, but this is sort of tempting me to join up again. Hmm only time will tell.

Yes, you continue to control the rights to your work
skaw
   skaw on May 25 '10 at 12:13pm
Yes, you guys can feel free to submit designs that you have previously submitted to Threadless but were not chosen for print. Remember it's best to give your designs 90 days on Threadless though!
Gar0

10% makes sense if you're shifting 1000s, which you're hardly gonna do on your tod - unless you're Moss, of course.
Chengui
   Chengui on May 25 '10 at 12:16pm
Can we submit some of our favorite non-chosen Threadless prints? Or are you guys looking for brand new stuffs?

hmmm, intriguing for sure. 10% is low, unless well... the market is large. and with the exposure Threadless offers, Society 6's market will grow (not sure what it is at the moment, as i am unfamiliar, but their sales are sure to go up, by association)
skaw
   skaw on May 25 '10 at 12:24pm
10% is for flat priced products and products sold through their retail partners... but you have a bit more control when selling art prints directly through society6 ... they take a flat base price of $20-something and you decide what above that to charge. so if you price it at $100 you take like $80 home.
fatheed
   fatheed on May 25 '10 at 12:26pm
But then, if you're shifting thousands at 30 bucks a pop and you're happy recieiving 3 bucks a go, you need to have a word with yourself.
fatheed
   fatheed on May 25 '10 at 12:26pm
I'll have to get back to you on that AJ :P
gumbolimbo

And selling through Threadless == selling through retail partner?

skaw
   skaw on May 25 '10 at 12:32pm
Yes, Threadless would be considered a retail partner. But you will also have your design for sale on s6. You have to put it up on s6 in order to get it in the Threadless Artist Shoppe. What's great about s6 is you put your work up on there and then from there it can get fed out to all of their retail partners.

plus you always retain control of your artwork in your posts. If you change your mind about having a piece for sale through society6 it is easy for you to make it no longer available for sale.

i already applied!! i have been on S6 for awhile now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. however, i have not participated in any of the selling of products through their partners (Urban Outfitters and now Threadless) to this point. I think it is great, as Skaw said, to get exposure and have different outlets. It just depends if you are willing to accept that you will only get 10% on sales of your work. It's all about volume at that point. Anyway, I am excited to see Threadless partnering up with them. I look forward to seeing how it all works out and hope I get to be a part of it!

On another note, I have however had a fair amount of success with selling prints through my own S6 store and recommend it to all artists even if you don't like the 10% structure.
