With this design, I had noticed a ton a cutesy art becoming more and more mainstream on many shirt sites, threadless included.
I figured I would throw my hat into the cutesy ring, and created these imaginary characters doing imaginary things.
Turns out it worked, and they printed these on kids shirts even, which I think turned out the best. I bought a bunch of kids shirts for all of my friends' kids.
This design took the least amount of work, probably going from nothing to complete in about 2 or 3 hours, but that just shows that its all a matter of opinion in the end, and not necessarily how hard a design is to create.
The idea for this design was during the 'threadless loves threadless' design competition.
The guidelines were to make a design different from what is normally thought of, that would push the limits of shirt design.
I came up with the pattern, based on old 70's floral pattern from old photo albums (hence the title, 1975) and then, integrated a hidden girls profile into the layout to add an extra bit of spice into the design.
I did not win that contest with this design, but luckily, it was later printed as a normal threadless print, then reprinted on another color. I think they are both attractive color schemes.
This was my select design here at threadless, which enabled the design to have 8 colors, and foil and /or specialty printing inks.
I knew I wanted to take advantage of the colors, the foil and also to make a cool design that I would like to wear, but not necessarily one that the voters would have voted to win.
I chose the theme of satan's mother, because a mother loves her kid no matter what i suppose.
This is my favorite of all my threadless designs.
This design is not as much a funny design as it is a cold hard fact.
Keep those kids away from unicorns. they're bitey.
This design is obviously a combination of Albert Einstein's face and the style work of artist MC Escher. Escher did some designs involving faces, 'peeled' so to speak in this style.
Albert Einstein's famous relativity equation of course is E=MCsquared, so combining this play on words worked well.
I originally subbed this 3 color design on a khaki colored shirt, but I think threadless did well to change it to the color schemes for the shirts they chose.
This was my second submission to threadless I think, and it was accidentally subbed on a pink shirt. It was supposed to be on baby blue though, so it worked out.
The idea came from those old cowboy movies they shot in italy because it was cheaper, and called them 'spaghetti westerns'.
The idea just kind of came together after thinking of that term and I think the retro look of the design and colors works really well for this shirt.
This is one of peoples favorites of my designs.
This design has become my 'claim to fame' so to speak, for it's insane popularity.
I knew the play on words that is involved and the communist look and colors of the design were funny to me, but i guess the design sort of hit a nerve in alot of ways to alot of different people, maybe because of the famous historical figures as well.
This is definately my most popular design, and it is the one of mine that has been reprinted the most times.
It also has many various internet dopplegangers, including one by yours truly. (made all together original and after the onset of others)
