All about me

Tactix Principal and Creative Director, Paul Howalt, graduated with a degree in graphic design from Arizona State University in 1992.

In 1993, Howalt was hired to a design position at the Charles S. Anderson Design Company. That same year, the company was voted as "The Nation's Most Influential Design Firm" in an industry-wide poll and featured in HOW Magazine, as well as in the book "Graphic Design: America."

In 1996, he left the company and formed Howalt Design Studio (eventually evolving into Tactix Creative) a multidisciplinary boutique design studio, working with numerous national ad agencies; specializing in corporate identity, product design, package design, interactive design and illustration.

Paul‘s brand development skills and award winning work has been saught after by both national and international clients including: MTV, Disney, HBO, Sony, The National Football League, Sports Illustrated, Lucent, Oracle, Viacom, AT&T, IBM, Target, Hasbro, Mattel, Sears, Nissan, CNN, BBC America, Turner Network Television, Sheraton Hotels, Seagate, Virgin Records, RCA Records, Adidas, Levi's, Quicksilver, Urban Outfitters, Sega, Pizza Hut, Indian Motorcycles, Pepsi, Hershey’s, Phillip Morris, 3Com, The US Campaign Against Youth Violence, The US Department of National Security, Kellogg’s, General Mills, Nestea, Sonicare, Forbes Magazine, MacWorld Magazine, Capitol One Visa, Honeywell, Seiko, Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Miller Lite and Hanschell-Innis bottling.

In addition, Paul has worked on a variety of projects with the following advertising agencies: TBWA Chiat/Day, Fallon McElligott, DDB Needham, Ogilvy & Mather, Foote Cone & Belding, Goodby-Silverstein, Leo Burnett, Martin/Williams, Mullen, Hill/Holiday and The Martin Agency.

Howalt has spoken at numerous design events including the HOW Magazine Design Conference. He was recently chosen to be the keynote speaker at the Arizona State AIGA Design Lecture Series and the Iowa Art Director’s Club. He has also been interviewed by numerous design industry publications, blogs and podcasts.

Paul’s work is on permanent display at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York and has been awarded multiple awards in one or more of the following national and international publications and/or shows: The Clio Awards (Gold), The One Show, Print, Communication Arts, ID, AIGA, The New York Type Directors Club, The American Center for Design Annual, HOW, Design World (Australia) and Graphis.
