Most of us have Society 6, Deviant art, etc. type accounts. But I'm making a list of places that are off the beaten path when artists can get more exposure.

Places:
EveryArt
and it was simply amazing. It was particularly awesome because almost every speaker was talking about creative capital; how artistic ability to solve problems is a form of currency. I think this resonates with any art community.

But I was particularly impressed with the Art Around Us project. Its an online web-app that allows users to map out local art, in whatever form. Street art, galleries, murals, etc.

Currently, this project is only in D.C, but I met with the people behind the project, and they are desperately trying to expand this app and make it nation-wide. I think this is a great example of how technology and art can be combined to create exposure for artists. The beauty is that, while this resides online, it still gives the user the information of how they can experience the art (in whatever form) first hand, tangibly.

Very cool stuff!
For all my local DC, VA, MD heads, if you get a chance sometime in the next 8 weeks, head on over and see how renowned LA based artist Doug Aitken transformed the iconic Hirshhorn facade into a super cool art installation he calls "Liquid Architecture."

You can see some of my photos here and find more information about the installation here

Cheers!
I think the most challenging thing about being in creative services is getting exposure. Well , I want to change that. And I have several ideas how to go about it.

But I wanted some input, and everyone here is a pretty good source.

What are some major challenges you have getting exposure as an artist?

Would you find a website that was dedicated to getting your projects seen helpful? Maybe one that matched artists with gallery owners or people with space, other resources? Or maybe something like that exists, and I don't know about it.

What would you like to see from a website that provided services like that?

I'm pretty excited because I landed this gig a month ago, and my first article (EVER) got published yesterday.

For those of you in the DC, MD, VA area:

I got to interview a local DC band called The Silver Liners. They invited me to a show, I went backstage, and we played ping pong. Its was fucking awesome.

I think they are lovely.

Please support your local Yetis by giving this your 5$.

UPDATE: We've incorporated Collabovate, Inc. in the state of VA and are in the process of applying for tax-exempt non-profit status!

Myself and some friends from business school are developing a business plan for a non-profit organization. The thought is that the best ideas are born out of collaboration. So we are going currently developing a platform where innovative thinkers can meet and search for passionate doers, so they can collaborate on ideas to improve society, or to provide society with an innovative solution to a problem, whether that problem be at the local, state, county, or world wide level.

So I thought I'd tap my Threadless friends for some information. Have you guys, during your wild forays into vast abyss that is the internet, come across any interesting websites whose main focus is to foster the collaborative process? OR anything that might be relevant to the cause?

THANKS!
I'll go first.
