Ok, I've figured it out. This must be some social commentary on our society's insistance for sweetness in everyday life. The different fruits, each red in tribute to the suppressed masses in communist china, are subject to the whim of the whipped cream, which is multidimensional. First, white and insubstantial, much like middle class America, it has an apparent distaste for those things different and foreign. Its distrustful nature makes peace with the "fruit" impossible.
