For those that have never read 1984:
The line "under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me" is the song played in the Chestnut Tree bar before political enemies are vaporised. It reminds them of how they betrayed one another and how Big Brother beat them. Nice choice. I like it. Wish it was smaller though. |

i didn't recognize him and thougt DR Well and also sean pean and was thoroughly confused as to what either of them had to do w/ japan. not that it is a bad design, but i try to take into consideration what a person is going to think when they see my shirt.

I'm not sure that I hate the idea of an orwell shirt (and I LOVE the text--not the font really, but what it says). I think I'd love it if the illusration was of that song, not of orwell himself. I bet he would too. :)

While I agree that I don't necesarily want to associate Orwell with Chariman Mao, I do like your execution and colors quite a bit! Does the R have to be backward? I think people would get it faster if your "O" and "R" were more conventional. Would you do one for Flannery O'Connor?

I think the text would be better if it said "WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.", but that's just me..

I like the text suggested by AndrewDBarker in addition to the shirt's present text. Perhaps a smaller graphic and a style that doesn't present Orwell as a communist organizer.

1984 was a fantastic read, and the text along with the image fits perfectly...not too sure about the giant 'orwell' though.
