About my design

by Nathan Griffin
"From a simple idea... a phenomenon was born." - Their quote.

My design is based on the above quote... that simple ideas (like Cranium WOW) have the potential change the world.

I thought about some simple ideas we all take for granted. 1+1=2, Red Green and Blue... simple ideas right? But consider how different the world would be without them. So I give you, "A Day Without RGB." A design which showcases the potential of simple ideas to bring people together and ultimately 'paint the world.' ........ wow =)

nice! would like to see this on other colors.

ewiggy. I tried a few different colors but 'natural' seemed to work best. And I suppose in a sense it helps 'portray' the 'simple' idea/theme.

Lesquelette. This was an issue I pondered for a long time actually. I did some research. RGB are actually considered 'primary colors' as they are the primary colors of LIGHT. RYB are primary colors of pigment.

As my submission was based on the ways we SAW the world without color, I decided to go with RGB. But trust me, I held off submitting for DAYS because I couldn't decide which way to go with it.

very very good!

Nathan Griffin on Dec 19 '07
Thanks Montro :)) and by the way.. before you see it and misunderstand it, I just posted a blog about the link that someone left on your lemon design and the ethical dilema it represents... it's in NO way meant to be malicious and I hope I made that clear in my post. It was merely an interesting point as so many times over the last few years, I've seen designs come and go that people label 'stolen.'

As a side note, I actually gave yours a $5 because regardless of whether it works on fabric or the fact that my design is up against yours, it still LOOKS cool.

So I just wanted to put that out there!! If it causes a problem, I'll take it down asap (my blog post)

And thanks again. Really. It's been ages since I've submitted anything to Threadless so we're giving it a go :)

always liked your stuff .. still do
Nathan Griffin
Nathan Griffin on Dec 20 '07
thanks wullagaru. It's interesting to look at my early subs (I cringe, seriously) and realize how basic they are.

It's a lack of scanner that's the real problem. I have no way to get my pen and ink stuff onto my computer to do any real editing. On my list of 'things to get in the near future' is a scanner and a nice printer. There's SO MUCH I want to do that involves my pen work and digital media.

ellabeeinc on Dec 21 '07
I know people aren't big on white shirts but the the concept depends on it. It's good.

Oh, and you don't really need a scanner...

I use my digital camera. Just set your artwork up in a nicely lit area and put the camera on 'close up' mode. Upload to photoshop and adjust the levels. It's easier and you don't need another piece of equipment. :)

Nathan Griffin on Dec 22 '07
ella and all of the last few folks that commented... thank you!

I should make it clear that the design is NOT on white!!! It's on NATURAL. I guess I should have put that in my first comment. The 'natural' shirt color image that Threadless provides I didn't like so I used the next closest one just to show placement.

I had hoped people would figure that from the background color of the design sub. Since the speech bubbles are white, a white shirt wouldn't work all that well and I'm not that fond of white shirts EITHER unless the design is appropriate.

Oh and thanks for the tip Ella :)) I need a few new items to make things easier for me.. a new digital is one of them since mine is uber old and doesn't work half the time :p

jimmiiko. Thanks for that :) I honestly knew nothing about that until just now.

For those interested in 'Day Without Art', here's a link to the most 'official' site online. It's an interesting project/movement and for a good cause.

Love the colourless concept, but don't like the creatures on the side. Their design doesn't mesh with the design of the cityscape at all. I think this would be more effective with having only the bird, flying in the sky and singing RGB.
